INTRODUCTION

SIXPRO is the largest Powder Coater in Quebec, Canada offering subcontracting services including electro-coating (e-coat), cured powder coatings, thermoplastic powder coatings, and liquid painting. They employ around 200 staff and have been in business since the early 1980s.

SITUATION

In 2008, SIXPRO built a strip tank and developed an in-house powder coat stripper for parts that were rejected for not meeting their quality standards. The switch to using a chemical paint stripper saved 50% of the labor costs previously incurred through hand sanding. However, they were unable to manage the powder coating stripping chemical in an optimal way, resulting in higher than expected operating costs.

THE GREENSOLV SOLUTION

  1. A Needs Analysis was completed in a meeting between GREENSOLV and SIXPRO.
  2. Lab tests were conducted to confirm the efficiency of AlumiStrip 273WL on SIXPRO coatings & parts.
  3. Compatibility between their existing stripping solution and AlumiStrip 273WL was also verified and confirmed.
  4. GREENSOLV prepared a special formula of additives that permitted SIXPRO to completely transform their existing paint stripper to AlumiStrip 273WL without having to waste a single drop of their existing stripping solution.
  5. As a result, the operation costs of paint stripping were greatly reduced.
  6. In 2010, GREENSOLV recommended upgrading SIXPRO’s 160 US gallon tank to a 640 US gallon tank to be able to strip even more parts.
  7. As part of GREENSOLV’s Efficiency Program, SIXPRO’s AlumiStrip 273WL solution was analyzed at no charge on a regular basis to maintain it at optimum efficiency. The Efficiency Program promises a minimum of 90% of original efficiency for the lifetime of the stripping tank.

CONCLUSION

INTRODUCTION

This world-renowned company builds and designs recreational vehicles. A part of their fabricating process is to powder coat & e-coat components of each vehicle that is built. A world leader in the design, manufacturing, distribution and marketing of motorized recreational vehicles, they hold 3000 employees and are in business since the mid 60's.

SITUATION

In 2008, the company introduced a new type of vehicle built with aluminum components. As they were mostly working with steel at that time, the method used for paint stripping was to burn off the parts in a pyrolysis oven. This method, incompatible with aluminum, could not be used to reclaim the rejected aluminum parts from their paint lines. Consequently, they had to find a way to avoid sending the parts out to be stripped to save time and reduce the operation cost.

THE GREENSOLV SOLUTION

INTRODUCTION

Patco Lab Inc logo Patco is a paint stripping facility reclaiming steel parts, jigs and hooks for their customers. They have been reclaiming parts since the year 2000. They are one of the few paint stripping facilities in the Montreal area and are the most active paint stripping facility in the province of Quebec.

SITUATION

  • Patco’s customers send metal parts to their facility to completely strip the accumulated paint or failed powder coating from metal substrates.
  • Using methylene chloride as their only paint stripper in the early 2000’s, they initially wanted to reduce their operating costs by switching to an alkaline stripper.
  • Not being able to properly monitor their stripping solution, they had a hard time making the operation cost-effective as the performance of their previous alkaline paint stripper was inconsistent. They then wanted to enhance the tank’s performance and to make it more consistent.

THE GREENSOLV SOLUTION

  1. A Needs Analysis was completed in a meeting between GREENSOLV and PATCO.
  2. Lab tests were conducted to confirm the efficiency of STEELSTRIP 255 on parts to be stripped.
